Kim Jong Un’s Sister Rejects US Denuclearization Push, Calls It an ‘Anachronistic Dream’

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s influential sister, Kim Yo Jong, on Sunday dismissed renewed US calls for Pyongyang’s denuclearization as an “anachronistic dream,” insisting that North Korea will continue expanding its nuclear arsenal in response to what it described as growing US-led military threats.

Her remarks came a day before Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit North Korea for talks with Kim Jong Un, marking his first trip to the country in seven years.

Kim Yo Jong rejected Washington’s assertion that North Korea could be persuaded to abandon its nuclear weapons program, calling such expectations detached from reality. She also denied US claims that Trump and Xi had reaffirmed a shared commitment to North Korea’s denuclearization during their recent summit in Beijing, arguing that Pyongyang’s status as a nuclear-armed state is irreversible. The statement underscored North Korea’s determination to accelerate nuclear and missile development, even as Beijing seeks to deepen engagement with its longtime ally amid the country’s growing ties with Russia.
