Russia says drone attacks from direction of EU countries are increasing
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that the number of drone attacks on Russian territory originating from the direction of Europe and Northern European countries was increasing.
Speaking amid growing tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, Zakharova claimed that Russia was witnessing a rise in aerial attacks targeting regions deep inside the country. She suggested that some of the drones used in the strikes could be travelling through the airspace of neighbouring European states.
Moscow has previously expressed concern that Ukrainian drones may be using Baltic or other countries’ airspace to launch attacks on targets inside Russia. Russian officials have argued that such incidents pose broader security risks for the region.
Ukraine and the three Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — have rejected the allegations. Kyiv has not confirmed using the territory or airspace of NATO member states for attacks on Russia, while Baltic officials have dismissed Moscow’s claims as unfounded.
The remarks come as drone warfare has become an increasingly significant aspect of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides reporting frequent aerial attacks in recent months.
