Virat Kohli-Travis Head post-match moment sparks buzz as handshake clip goes viral
The spotlight shifted beyond the result during Friday’s Indian Premier League clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as a tense on-field exchange involving Virat Kohli and Travis Head became a major talking point on social media.
While Hyderabad registered a commanding 55-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, post-match visuals sparked discussion online after a viral clip appeared to show Kohli moving past Head during the customary handshake line. Kohli was seen greeting several SRH players, including captain Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, while viewers interpreted his interaction with Head as noticeably cold.
The moment followed an evening in which tension between the two appeared to build gradually. During SRH’s innings, Kohli produced an animated celebration after Head was dismissed for 26 by Rasikh Salam Dar.
The exchanges continued during RCB’s chase of 256, with cameras capturing an intense verbal interaction between Kohli and Head. Kohli was also seen gesturing toward the Australian opener, seemingly challenging him to contribute with the ball. In an ironic turn, Head later came on to bowl and struck a crucial blow by dismissing RCB captain Rajat Patidar, who had scored 56 from 39 deliveries.
Earlier, Hyderabad built a massive total of 255/4 thanks to explosive batting performances. Ishan Kishan led the charge with 79 from 46 balls and earned Player of the Match honours, while Abhishek Sharma blasted 56 off only 22 deliveries. Heinrich Klaasen added late momentum with a rapid 51 from 24 balls.
RCB’s reply never fully gathered pace despite Patidar’s half-century and Krunal Pandya remaining unbeaten on 41, as Hyderabad restricted them to 200/4.
Despite the defeat, RCB retained an important advantage in the playoff race. Their stronger net run rate kept them inside the top two positions, with RCB, Gujarat Titans and SRH all finishing level on 18 points.
The top three playoff spots are now confirmed, while the battle for the final knockout berth remains open among Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
