Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan ad sparks backlash; fans ask, ‘Why police her clothes now?’
Kriti Sanon has found herself at the centre of a social media debate over her latest jewellery advertisement for Raksha Bandhan.
In the campaign, the actor is seen wearing an Indo-Western ensemble featuring a bralette-style blouse, cape and draped skirt while tying a rakhi to her on-screen brother. The advertisement has divided viewers, with some questioning whether her outfit was appropriate for a festival traditionally associated with family rituals.
Kriti Sanon’s Outfit Draws Criticism
Several social media users criticised Kriti’s styling in the advertisement, arguing that the outfit did not fit the traditional setting of Raksha Bandhan.
One user called the campaign “extremely shameful”, while another questioned the absence of traditional elements such as a puja thali and tilak.
Others accused the brand and advertising agency of deliberately choosing a controversial look to generate attention.
Others Defend the Actor
However, the advertisement has also received support from users who criticised what they described as the policing of women’s clothing.
One supporter argued that Kriti was not dressed inappropriately and questioned why people who celebrate her glamorous roles in films were now objecting to her appearance in a festive campaign.
Another user praised the advertisement for challenging conventional expectations around how women should dress during festivals, calling it a break from traditional stereotypes.
The contrasting reactions have sparked a wider debate about fashion, cultural expectations and the standards applied to women’s clothing during traditional celebrations.
