Iran Writes ‘Thank You India’ on Missiles Amid War With Israel, Signals Diplomatic Messaging

In a symbolic move during the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran has inscribed messages thanking the “people of India” on missiles launched toward Israel, according to visuals shared by Iranian officials and state media.

Images circulated online by the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai and Iranian outlets show personnel from Iran’s Aerospace Force writing notes such as “Thank you to people of India” on missiles using blue markers before launch. Similar messages were reportedly directed at people in Spain, Pakistan, and Germany, suggesting a broader outreach effort toward nations perceived as sympathetic to Tehran.

The visuals emerged during what Iran described as the 83rd wave of its military campaign under “Operation True Promise 4,” carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iranian state network Press TV reported that the strikes targeted key American and Israeli military-linked infrastructure across the region.

According to the report, the targets included oil storage facilities in Ashdod, military sites near Modi’in, and a US military information exchange centre. Iranian authorities also cited strikes on American bases such as Al-Dhafra and Al-Udeid, along with Ali Al-Salem Air Base and Sheikh Isa Base, using a combination of long- and medium-range missiles, precision systems, and drones.

Why India Was Mentioned

The reference to India comes amid recent developments reflecting relatively stable ties between New Delhi and Tehran during the conflict.

Iran recently assured safe passage for Indian vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, even as restrictions remain for ships linked to the United States and its allies. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described India as among a group of “friendly” nations whose vessels would not be blocked despite the tensions.

Another factor appears to be humanitarian support from India, particularly from Jammu and Kashmir. In recent weeks, civilians have organised donation drives to assist people affected by the conflict in Iran, contributing cash, jewellery, and essential items.

One widely shared account described a Kashmiri woman donating gold she had preserved for nearly three decades in memory of her late husband. The Iranian Embassy in India acknowledged such gestures, expressing gratitude and saying the support would “never be forgotten.”

Children’s Gesture Draws Attention

The Iranian mission in India also highlighted an emotional initiative in which Indian children donated their piggy banks to support students of Minab School in Iran. Sharing the story on social media, the embassy described the act as coming from “small yet love-filled hearts,” calling it a symbol of compassion during a time of crisis.

The development underscores India’s delicate diplomatic position—balancing public humanitarian sentiment, longstanding ties with Iran, and its broader relationships with the United States and Israel.

India has consistently called for restraint and dialogue, urging a diplomatic resolution to the conflict that began following US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
