Indian student Saketh Sreenivasaiah found dead in California
A 22-year-old Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who had been reported missing in the United States, has been found dead, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed on Sunday.
Sreenivasaiah, a postgraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, was discovered in Lake Anza near the Berkeley Hills by local authorities. He had been missing since February 9 and was last seen near Tilden Regional Park in California.
In a statement posted on X, the Consulate General of India in San Francisco expressed condolences to his family.
“The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time,” the mission said.
The Consulate added that it is in direct contact with the family and stands ready to provide necessary assistance, including coordination with local authorities and the repatriation of his mortal remains.
Originally from Tumakuru in Karnataka, Sreenivasaiah was pursuing a Master of Science degree in the Product Development Programme at UC Berkeley. According to his LinkedIn profile, he completed his Bachelor of Technology in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
His parents had earlier sought help from the Karnataka government after he went missing. The state government subsequently urged the Ministry of External Affairs to extend all possible support through the Indian mission in the United States.
