Hindu Man Burned to Death in Bangladesh’s Narsingdi, Police Probe Possible Foul Play
A 25-year-old Hindu man was burned to death on Friday night in Narsingdi district, Bangladesh, after a fire broke out in a garage where he was sleeping, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Chanchal Bhowmik, was found charred after firefighters forced open the shutter of the shop in an attempt to rescue him.
Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruque said CCTV footage from the area showed suspicious movement near the scene before the fire.
“We have collected footage from the CCTV cameras and observed a person moving around. We are investigating whether the fire was caused by an external factor or an electrical fault,” Faruque told ANI.
He added that the blaze originated inside the shop where Bhowmik had been sleeping.
“We are still investigating everything, and so far, no one has been arrested,” the police chief said.
Authorities are examining whether the incident was caused by an electrical malfunction or deliberate action. As of Sunday, no arrests have been made.
Minority Safety Concerns
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh, as the country faces political uncertainty ahead of national elections scheduled for February 12, 2026.
With rising communal tensions and the ban on the Awami League, the security environment remains volatile, drawing international attention to the issue of minority protection.
