Dense fog continued to blanket northern India on Sunday, disrupting travel for thousands of passengers and severely reducing visibility across the region. The persistent fog impacted both air and rail services, with more than 200 flights delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Rail travel was also hit, with over 50 Northern Railways trains running behind schedule due to the adverse weather conditions, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Airports Authority issues advisory

Amid the disruption, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued an advisory warning that fog in parts of northern India is affecting visibility and could lead to delays or changes in flight operations at select airports. Passengers were advised to check flight status directly with airlines through official channels and to allow additional time for airport travel and formalities.

“Fog conditions in parts of Northern India are affecting visibility and may lead to delays or changes in flight operations at select airports,” the AAI said, urging travellers to remain prepared for possible disruptions.

Delhi airport urges caution

Despite widespread delays, Delhi airport said in a passenger advisory issued at 10 am on Sunday that flight operations at IGI Airport were “continuing to be normal.” However, passengers were advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules.

AQI worsens in Delhi-NCR

Delhi also woke up to a thick blanket of toxic smog, further reducing visibility and causing discomfort to residents. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at around 390 at 7 am, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Several parts of the capital slipped into the ‘severe’ category, with pollution levels remaining alarmingly high across the city.
