On December 13, 2001, five heavily armed terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) stormed the Parliament complex in New Delhi and opened indiscriminate fire, in one of the most audacious terror attacks on India’s democratic institutions.

The attack occurred around 40 minutes after Parliament was adjourned, when about 100 members were still present inside the building. Fourteen people, including security personnel and a civilian, were killed in the assault before the attackers were neutralised.

On Friday, the Lok Sabha paid solemn tributes to the brave personnel of the Parliament Security Service, Delhi Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who laid down their lives while defending Parliament during the attack. Speaker Om Birla led the House in remembering the martyrs.

The House also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s unity, integrity and sovereignty, and reiterated its resolve to remain steadfast in the fight against terrorism.
