PM Modi Congratulates Australia’s Anthony Albanese on Historic In-Office Wedding
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his wishes to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon on their wedding, posting a brief congratulatory message on X.
“Congratulations to my good friend, PM Anthony Albanese and Ms. Jodie Haydon on their wedding. Wishing them a happy married life,” Modi wrote.
Albanese married Haydon in an intimate ceremony at The Lodge, the prime minister’s official residence in Canberra. The event marks a historic moment, making him the first sitting Australian prime minister in the country’s 124-year federal history to wed while in office.
According to a statement from the Australian prime minister’s office, the couple exchanged vows in the presence of close family and friends. “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” Albanese said.
Haydon, a familiar figure alongside Albanese at public events—including the 2022 election campaign and Labor’s sweeping victory this May—played a central role in the ceremony. The celebration featured several personal touches: Haydon’s five-year-old niece Ella served as the flower girl, while the couple’s dog, Toto, carried the rings.
