Rohini Acharya Reiterates Allegations Against Tejashwi Yadav’s Aides, Says She Has ‘Disowned’ Only Her Brother
Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has reiterated her allegations against Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides days after she quit the party and publicly accused them of mistreating her. She spoke to reporters on Sunday while leaving for Mumbai to stay with her in-laws.
Acharya said her parents and sisters were standing firmly by her and clarified that she had “disowned” only her brother, not her family.
“Whatever I had to say, I said on my social media. I haven’t lied about anything. You can go and ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Rachel Yadav and Rameez… My father has always stood by me,” she told ANI.
Acharya, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Saran, said she was returning to Mumbai because her mother-in-law was “extremely worried” about her. Her husband is a Singapore-based software engineer.
“My parents and sisters were crying for me yesterday… In a family where there are brothers, they should be the ones making sacrifices. I have only disowned my brother. My parents and sisters are with me,” she said.
Acharya resigned from the RJD and announced her exit from politics a day after the Bihar Assembly election results, which saw the party’s tally plunge from 75 seats to around 25.
What triggered the row?
In her social media posts, Acharya alleged she had been subjected to “filthy abuses” and claimed someone had attempted to hit her with a slipper during an altercation involving Tejashwi Yadav’s aides — Sanjay Yadav, now a Rajya Sabha MP, and Rameez.
Her allegations prompted a fierce reaction from her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav — who was earlier expelled from both the party and the family.
Posting from the Janshakti Janata Dal’s social media handle, he wrote that the incident had “shaken [his] heart to the core.” He said he had endured many personal attacks but found his sister’s humiliation “unbearable under any circumstances.”
He warned of “harsh consequences” for those responsible and urged Lalu Prasad Yadav to “give just one signal,” adding, “The people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands.”
Tej Pratap accused “a few faces” of influencing Tejashwi’s decisions and said the matter had become about “the dignity of a daughter and the self-respect of Bihar.”
He was removed from the RJD earlier this year following a controversial Facebook post that revived scrutiny of his troubled marriage and ongoing divorce case with Aishwarya Rai.
