PM Modi Slams Congress, RJD for ‘Insulting’ Chhath Festival; Vows to Seek UNESCO Heritage Tag
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing an election rally in Muzaffarpur, accused the Congress and RJD of “insulting” the sacred Chhath festival and its devotees in their quest for votes.
“The women who fast without water, who stand in the holy Ganga to offer arghya to Surya Dev — in the eyes of the RJD and Congress, they are merely doing drama,” Modi said.
“Will the mothers and sisters of Bihar tolerate such an insult to Chhathi Maiyya? No true Bihari can ever forget this disrespect,” he added.
The Prime Minister announced that his government is working to get the Chhath festival included in UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage.
Stepping up his criticism, Modi said, “Those who looted the railways — will they ever develop connectivity in Bihar?” He also accused the RJD of symbolizing “katta, kurta, katuta, kusashan, and corruption,” calling them the five hallmarks of jungle raj.
PM Modi on ‘Lathbandhan’
Earlier, Modi had described the opposition alliance as a “lathbandhan” — a coalition of criminals — whose leaders are out on bail. Speaking to BJP workers via the NaMo App last week, he said the people of Bihar would never forget the “misdeeds of Jungle Raj” and urged NDA partners to campaign jointly, showcasing the development works achieved under the NDA government.
