US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey Sign Gaza Peace Declaration; Trump Says ‘It’s Going to Hold Up’
The United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey on Monday signed a joint declaration as guarantors of the Gaza peace deal, aimed at ending two years of war between Israel and Hamas.
“The document is going to spell out rules and regulations and lots of other things,” said US President Donald Trump before signing the agreement, adding twice, “It’s going to hold up.”
Trump arrived in Egypt for a global summit on Gaza’s future, attended by several world leaders. His visit followed a stop in Israel, where he addressed the Israeli Parliament and urged both sides to move beyond the battlefield.
“Israel has achieved what it needed to on the battlefield,” Trump said, calling on the country to now “work toward peace in the Middle East.”
The US president also pledged American support to help rebuild Gaza, urging Palestinians to “turn forever from the path of terror and violence.”
🔹 20 Hostages Released in Major Breakthrough
As part of the peace deal, 20 surviving Israeli hostages were released on Monday, marking a major step forward in the fragile ceasefire process. The hostages were handed over by Hamas to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Trump may meet some of them during his visit.
In exchange, Israel is expected to release more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners, including around 250 convicted over attacks that killed or injured Israelis, along with hundreds held on lesser charges.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, sparking a devastating two-year conflict.
🔹 What Happens Next in the Israel-Gaza Truce
The next 24 hours are expected to be crucial for the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire:
-
Hostage release: Hamas has transferred all 20 surviving Israeli hostages to the Red Cross. Their medical condition has not yet been disclosed.
-
Prisoner exchange: Israel will release around 2,000 Palestinian detainees, including roughly 1,700 captured from Gaza during the war and 250 convicted attackers.
-
Humanitarian aid: Hundreds of aid trucks are set to enter Gaza from Egypt. According to reports, around 400 trucks were already lined up on Sunday, with Israeli authorities confirming that the number will soon rise to 600 trucks per day under the deal.
The Gaza Peace Declaration, signed under Trump’s mediation, represents the most comprehensive diplomatic effort since the start of the war — and world leaders hope it can pave the way toward a lasting peace in the region.
