Delhi BMW Crash: Accused Driver Sent to Two-Day Judicial Custody
A Delhi court on Monday remanded 38-year-old Gagandeep Kaur Makkad to two days’ judicial custody in connection with the BMW crash that killed a senior finance ministry official and injured his wife. Makkad, accused of driving the vehicle, has also moved a bail plea.
On Sunday night, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs Navjot Singh (52) was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a BMW in Dhaula Kuan while he was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife. She remains in hospital with serious injuries.
Probe Into Hospital Link
Police are investigating why Singh and his wife were taken to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 km from the crash site. The hospital is reportedly owned by one of Makkad’s relatives. While the accused has claimed they acted in panic, the victim’s family has alleged possible collusion with hospital staff.
Sources told PTI that police are also probing potential tampering of medical records at the facility, including those related to Makkad, who was treated there after the incident. The victim’s family alleged there was no record of her or her relatives being admitted.
Charges Filed
According to the FIR, Makkad has been booked under sections 281, 125B, 105, and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, obstruction of evidence, rash driving, and endangering lives.
