Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday strongly condemned a terror attack in Jerusalem that left at least six people dead and several others injured.

“Strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on innocent civilians in Jerusalem today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” Modi said in a post on X.

Reiterating India’s stance, he said the country condemns “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations” and stands firm on a policy of “zero tolerance” toward terrorism.

The attack

The assault took place on Monday morning at Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in east Jerusalem, when two gunmen boarded a bus and opened fire on passengers, according to Israeli media reports.

Emergency services said the attackers were “neutralised” shortly after the incident. Footage from the scene showed commuters fleeing from a bus stop near the city’s northern entrance.

The attack came hours after Israeli defence minister Israel Katz warned Hamas to surrender and lay down arms or face “annihilation.”
