PM Modi Hails GST 2.0 as ‘Double Dose’ for Economy, Citizens
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the recently approved GST 2.0 reforms as a “double dose” for the economy, calling them simpler, more beneficial, and inclusive for every section of society.
Recalling his Independence Day promise of delivering a “double dhamaka of happiness before Diwali and Chhath Puja,” Modi said the reforms would accelerate India’s progress in the 21st century. The Prime Minister stressed that the changes will boost consumption, employment, investments, and ease of doing business while improving the quality of life. He described the reforms as adding “five new gems (panch ratna)” to India’s economic framework, strengthening cooperative federalism and supporting the goal of a developed India.
The GST Council, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, approved the reforms on Wednesday. Following the announcement, Modi posted on X, praising the consensus between the Centre and states.
“Glad to state that the @GST_Council has collectively agreed to the proposals on GST rate cuts and reforms, which will benefit the common man, farmers, MSMEs, middle class, women, and youth,” he wrote, adding that the measures would “improve lives and ensure ease of doing business for all, especially small traders and enterprises.”
