Israeli Airstrikes Hit Yemen’s Capital Sanaa After Houthi Missile Fired Toward Israel
Israeli airstrikes struck Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Sunday, days after Houthi rebels launched a missile toward Israel, according to statements from the Iran-backed group. The attack marks a fresh escalation in Israel’s campaign against the Houthis.
The Houthi media office claimed strikes targeted a power plant, a gas station, and sites near the presidential palace. Residents also reported loud explosions close to a military academy and Sabeen Square. Israel has not immediately confirmed responsibility.
Chaos on the ground
Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke, shattered windows, and terrified residents fleeing. Hindustan Times could not independently verify the footage.
“The sound of explosions was very strong,” said Hussein Mohamed, who lives near the presidential palace.
“The house was rocked, and the windows were shattered,” added another resident, Ahmed al-Mekhlafy.
Houthis vow retaliation
Houthi officials vowed the strikes would not stop their operations against Israel. “No matter how much they bomb, we will not abandon Gaza,” said Nasruddin Amer, deputy head of the group’s media office.
