Brooklyn Club Shooting Leaves 3 Dead, 9 Injured Amid Record Low Gun Violence in NYC

A shooting at a Brooklyn nightclub early Sunday left three people dead and nine others wounded, marking New York City’s second mass shooting in weeks despite an overall decline in gun violence.

Police said up to four shooters opened fire inside the Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights around 3:30 a.m. after a dispute. Investigators recovered at least 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber weapons and found a firearm on a nearby street. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the attack “a tragic, senseless act of violence” and said it appeared gang-related.

The victims range in age from 19 to 61. A 19-year-old man died at the scene, while two others — ages 27 and 35 — were pronounced dead at a hospital. The nine wounded victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mayor Eric Adams said the killings underscore the city’s efforts to crack down on illegal guns. “This is the second within weeks, and we don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city,” he said, noting trauma response teams have been deployed to prevent retaliation.

On July 29, a gunman armed with a rifle killed four people — including a police officer — and wounded another inside a Manhattan office tower.

Despite the recent tragedies, Tisch stressed that shootings in New York remain at record lows. “Something like this is, thank God, an anomaly … but we’re going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down,” she said.

Adams urged anyone with information to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
