Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly constructed Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Delhi, aimed at addressing the acute shortage of suitable housing for MPs.

The modern, eco-friendly residences are designed in a vertical housing format to optimise limited land availability in the capital while keeping maintenance costs low. Each flat spans around 5,000 sq ft of carpet area, with dedicated sections for offices, staff accommodation, and living spaces — reportedly offering more space than even the top-category Type-VIII bungalows.

The self-sufficient complex features a community centre, green technology compliant with the GRIHA 3-star rating, renewable energy systems, energy-efficient fittings, effective waste management, and earthquake-resistant construction. Built using monolithic concrete with aluminium shuttering, the design adheres to the National Building Code (NBC) 2016 and is fully Divyang-friendly.

During the inauguration, PM Modi planted a Sindoor sapling, interacted with construction workers, and addressed attendees. The residences reflect a blend of sustainability, inclusivity, and functionality for India’s lawmakers.
