MS Dhoni Confirms Long-Term Future with CSK: ‘Will Always Be in a Yellow Jersey’
After months of speculation surrounding his future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni has finally opened up—reassuring fans that while his playing days may be numbered, his bond with the franchise is far from over.
Speaking at a private event earlier this week, the former CSK skipper said,
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15–20 years… I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15–20 years! But yeah.”
With a smile, he hinted at taking up a long-term role with the franchise, possibly in a non-playing capacity.
Hinting at Life Beyond the Field
The 44-year-old had remained non-committal during previous interactions, especially after CSK’s underwhelming performance in IPL 2025. Despite initial assumptions that he might retire after IPL 2024, Dhoni returned mid-season in 2025 to captain the side once again following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s elbow injury.
CSK, however, endured a forgettable campaign, finishing last with just four wins from 14 games. Still, Dhoni sees value in the setbacks:
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us… But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong?”
Gaikwad’s Return and Auction Plans
Dhoni also confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad, who missed most of the season due to injury, will return:
“Rutu will be coming back… So, we are quite sorted now.”
He added that the team is preparing to make strategic moves during the December mini-auction to fix remaining gaps.
A Bond That Runs Deep
In an emotional sign-off, Dhoni reflected on his deep connection with CSK and Chennai:
“The relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. CSK just happened. I think it’s good for Chennai. So, today it’s good for me also.”
Whether on the field or off it, Dhoni made it clear—his heart beats in yellow, and CSK remains home.
