‘Just a gut feeling’: CM Omar Abdullah’s cryptic post on ‘what to expect in J&K tomorrow’

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday sparked speculation with a cryptic post on social media platform X, expressing cautious optimism about a potential positive development for the union territory during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.

“I’ve heard every possible permutation & combination about what to expect in J&K tomorrow, so let me stick my neck out and say nothing will happen tomorrow — fortunately nothing bad will happen, but unfortunately nothing positive will happen either. I’m still optimistic about something positive for J&K in this monsoon session of Parliament but not tomorrow,” Abdullah wrote.

He clarified that his comments were not based on insider information from New Delhi but were a reflection of his “gut feeling” ahead of the August 5 parliamentary session.

Though Abdullah did not specify what the anticipated development might be, his remarks come amid renewed buzz over the possible restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Speculation intensified after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah held separate meetings with President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday. No official readout of these meetings has been made public.

The date of August 5 carries particular political weight in the region — it was on this day in 2019 that Home Minister Amit Shah announced the abrogation of Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.

Since then, political activity in the region has gradually resumed. Assembly elections were recently held, resulting in a victory for the National Conference–Congress alliance. Following the results, Omar Abdullah returned to office as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir
