Malegaon Blast Case Verdict Live Updates: All 7 Accused Acquitted by NIA Court After 17 Years
A special NIA court in Mumbai is set to deliver its verdict today in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, nearly 17 years after the deadly attack rocked the Muslim-majority town of Malegaon in Maharashtra during the holy month of Ramadan.
The blast, which killed six people and injured over 100, marks one of the earliest instances where alleged Hindu extremists were charged in a terror case. Among the seven accused are prominent names such as BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, and Retd. Major Ramesh Upadhyay.
Initially investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the case was later transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011. Since then, it has witnessed a long legal battle involving changes in charges, testimonies, and multiple legal challenges.
This verdict will be a landmark moment—not just in the context of the Malegaon attack—but also in shaping the discourse on domestic terror and religious extremism in India.
