Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates: Fresh Missile Strikes, Air Raid Sirens as Tehran Vows ‘Bitter Fate’ for Israel

21

Iran launched a fresh missile attack on Israel early Saturday, primarily targeting the country’s northern region, including the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. Air-raid sirens blared across northern Israel, and civilians were urged to take cover as tensions soared between the two regional powers.

The latest strikes come after Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel in retaliation for a surprise overnight Israeli airstrike on Iranian soil. That Israeli operation, dubbed ‘Operation Rising Lion’, targeted key Iranian military and nuclear sites and resulted in the deaths of several top officials, including Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami and Iran’s military chief of staff, Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, according to Iranian state media.

Missile From Yemen, Airspace Closures, Mass Evacuations

Israel has begun evacuating affected areas and activated air-raid sirens in multiple cities, including Tel Aviv, after detecting what the IDF said was a missile launched from Yemen. Residents rushed to bomb shelters as explosions were reported across northern Israel.

In response to the rapidly deteriorating security situation, both Iran and Israel have shut down their airspace, while the U.S. began withdrawing personnel from the region.

Operation Rising Lion: Israel’s Justification and Objectives

The Israeli government stated that the strikes on Iran were necessary to disrupt a nuclear program it claims is nearing a “point of no return.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation was a “targeted military campaign” focused on destroying Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, missile production sites, and military command centers.

“This operation will continue for as long as it takes to remove the threat,” Netanyahu said.
“Iran already has enough highly enriched uranium for nine nuclear bombs.”

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that missile and drone retaliation from Iran was expected “in the immediate timeframe.”

Iran Vows ‘Bitter and Painful Fate’ for Israel

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a stark warning in response to the Israeli offensive:

“With this crime, the Zionist regime has set itself up for a bitter and painful fate. It will definitely receive it.”

Iran confirmed the deaths of multiple senior commanders and six nuclear scientists in the Israeli airstrikes, calling the attack a grave provocation.

Global Reaction and U.S. Stance

The United States distanced itself from Israel’s offensive, calling it a “unilateral action.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a White House statement:

“We are not involved in strikes against Iran. Our top priority is the protection of American personnel and interests in the region.”

However, reports suggest that U.S. forces assisted in intercepting Iranian drones en route to Israeli targets.

Amid rising alarm, world leaders have urged restraint:

  • UN Secretary-General called on both sides to exercise “maximum restraint.”

  • China expressed “deep concern” over the unfolding conflict.

  • France warned that further escalation could destabilize the entire region.

On the Ground in Tehran

While the full extent of the damage inside Iran remains unclear, smoke was seen rising from Chitgar, a neighborhood in western Tehran, after the Israeli strike. Iranian authorities have not confirmed the specific sites targeted.
