8.3 Million Refugees At Risk As ‘Severe’ Funding Shortfall Hits UNHCR: UN

Nearly 8.3 million refugees and other forcibly displaced people could lose vital assistance as the UN refugee agency UNHCR faces a severe funding shortfall, the agency warned Tuesday.

UNHCR said its ability to protect and assist refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and stateless people was being undermined by a sustained and worsening lack of funding.

By the end of July, the agency had received only 32% of the $8.5 billion it needs this year to provide protection and assistance to displaced populations, UNHCR said.
