Yamuna Water Level Recedes Slightly, But Delhi-NCR Areas Remain Flooded

Despite a marginal drop in the Yamuna’s water level, several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) remained waterlogged on Friday morning.

Central Water Commission (CWC) data showed the river flowing at 207.33 metres at 7 am at the Old Railway Bridge (Loha Pul) — still above the danger mark but down from 207.48 metres a day earlier. Officials warned that flooding and waterlogging would persist until levels fall significantly.

While Delhi woke up to clear skies, the India Meteorological Department forecast a generally cloudy day with moderate rain, with temperatures expected to range between 23°C and 33°C.

Several low-lying areas, including Civil Lines and Monastery Market, remained inundated. At Vasudev Ghat, pumps were deployed to drain floodwater, while autorickshaws and tractors struggled through submerged streets. Families in nearby areas were relocated to relief camps near Mayur Vihar-1, though some camps themselves had seen floodwater seep in on Thursday.

In NCR, Gurugram and Ghaziabad also reported flooding. At least 55 families were evacuated from Badarpur village in Ghaziabad after water released from Haryana’s Hathnikund barrage swelled the Yamuna. Relief camps were set up with food, medical teams, and ambulances on standby, officials said.

Authorities continue to monitor embankments closely to prevent further breaches.
