Vidhie Mukerjea Takes U-Turn, Confirms Giving CBI Statement After Indrani’s Arrest
Vidhie Mukerjea, a key prosecution witness in the Sheena Bora murder case, reversed her earlier stance in an affidavit submitted to a Mumbai court on Thursday, claiming that the CBI had recorded her statement shortly after the arrest of her mother and main accused, Indrani Mukerjea, in 2015.
This contradicted her deposition from just two days earlier, in which she denied giving any statement to investigative agencies and described the documents cited in the CBI chargesheet as “forged and fabricated.”
The special CBI court completed her testimony on Thursday.
In her surprising Wednesday testimony, Vidhie had contradicted the prosecution’s account by saying that Rahul Mukerjea — Indrani’s stepson and Sheena’s boyfriend — had told her in 2015 that Sheena was with him even after the alleged murder date. She claimed Rahul had dropped Sheena off on the day she went missing in April 2012 and later picked her up from the same location.
During cross-examination on Thursday by advocate Manjula Rao, representing Peter Mukerjea, Vidhie detailed her movements in 2015. “Within a week of my mother’s arrest in August 2015, I left for London. I came back in October for three days, when I was taken to the CBI office for questioning. After that, I did not return until December during my Christmas vacation,” she told the court.
