Venezuela Bans Several Major Airlines, Accuses Them of ‘Terrorism’ After U.S.-Linked Route Suspensions

Venezuela’s civil aviation authority on Wednesday announced bans on several major international airlines after they suspended routes in response to U.S. warnings about military activity in the Caribbean.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the regulator said it would revoke the operating permits of Iberia, TAP, Avianca, LATAM, GOL and Turkish Airlines, accusing them of “joining the actions of state terrorism promoted by the United States government” by unilaterally halting commercial flights.

The airlines had paused services after Washington cautioned of heightened military activity tied to a regional deployment it says targets narcotics operations — a move President Nicolás Maduro claims is aimed at toppling his government.
