US Congressman Ro Khanna Condemns Brutal Killing of Indian National in Texas
US Congressman Ro Khanna on Sunday denounced the beheading of Indian national Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah in Dallas, calling it “horrific” and faulting law enforcement for allowing the accused, an undocumented immigrant with a violent record, to remain free.
Nagamallaiah, 50, a motel manager from Karnataka, was killed in front of his wife and son by 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez following a dispute over a malfunctioning washing machine. Witnesses said the suspect fetched a machete and attacked Nagamallaiah until he was decapitated, according to NBC News.
“The brutal beheading of a hardworking Indian American immigrant in front of his wife & son is horrific,” Khanna wrote on X, noting Cobos-Martinez’s prior arrests for theft and child endangerment. “He should not have been free on American streets.”
India’s Consulate General in Houston expressed shock and extended condolences to the victim’s family, saying it was “following up on the matter closely” with Dallas police. Cobos-Martinez, who has a criminal history, is in custody without bond.
Nagamallaiah is survived by his wife and 18-year-old son, with a fundraiser launched to support them.
