UP woman, lover arrested for killing husband; body allegedly dismembered with grinder
A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for the murder of her husband and for allegedly dismembering his body in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, police said on Monday.
According to police, the accused woman, Ruby, a resident of Mohalla Chunni in the Chandousi area, had filed a missing person complaint on November 18, stating that her husband Rahul (38) had not returned home, news agency PTI reported.
Nearly a month later, on December 15, police recovered a mutilated body from a drain near the Eidgah area. The remains were missing several body parts, prompting an intensive investigation.
“The body was taken into custody and a post-mortem was conducted,” Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi said, adding that forensic teams carried out a detailed examination and collected DNA samples.
Investigators also found the name “Rahul” written on the body, police said. A review of missing person complaints across nearby police stations, along with technical analysis, showed that Rahul’s mobile phone had been switched off since November 18.
Wife confesses to role in murder, police say
As the investigation progressed, suspicion fell on Ruby. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover, Gaurav, after Rahul discovered their illicit relationship, the SP said.
“The accused told police they attacked Rahul using blunt objects, killing him on the spot,” Bishnoi said, adding that the body was later cut into pieces.
Police said some remains were dumped in the drain from where they were recovered, while others were allegedly disposed of in the Ganga river near Rajghat.
Investigators have recovered a grinder allegedly used in the crime, along with other tools believed to have been used in the assault, according to the PTI report.
DNA samples of the deceased have been preserved and will be matched with those of Rahul’s children to conclusively establish his identity and strengthen the case, police said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
