U.S. Rejects Macron’s Plan to Recognize Palestinian State
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday sharply criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state, calling it a “reckless decision” that undermines prospects for peace.
Macron announced that France plans to officially recognize a Palestinian state during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September, expressing hope that the move would advance peace efforts in the Middle East.
“This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace,” Rubio said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Adding to the U.S. stance, Washington’s ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, stated in June that the pursuit of an independent Palestinian state no longer aligned with current U.S. foreign policy objectives.
