Two Jaish-e-Mohammad Terrorists Killed in Udhampur Encounter, Weapons Recovered
Two terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday, police officials said.
The anti-terror operation was jointly carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) under a coordinated mission named Operation Kiya.
According to officials, the slain militants have been identified as JeM commanders Mavi and Zubair. Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and an M4 carbine from their possession after the bodies were retrieved.
Terrorists Traced to Forest Cave
The terrorists were traced to a natural cave in the Jaffer forest area of Ramnagar around 4 pm on Tuesday, following specific intelligence inputs, news agency PTI reported. A gunfight erupted soon after security personnel established contact with the militants.
The exchange of fire reportedly lasted for over an hour. Officials said the militants later attempted to flee under the cover of darkness, leading to a brief resumption of firing at around 7:30 pm.
In response, additional Army reinforcements, including paratroopers and dog squads, were deployed to strengthen the cordon and prevent any escape.
Final Assault on Wednesday Morning
No firing was reported during the night as security forces maintained their positions and prepared for a final operation. Early on Wednesday morning, a carefully planned assault was launched on the terrorists hiding in the forest area.
Following the intensified operation, both militants were neutralised, officials confirmed.
Officials Praise Inter-Agency Coordination
Security officials said the successful encounter was the result of precise planning and close coordination among multiple agencies.
“Contact with terrorists was established yesterday and since then, they were prevented from breaking contact. Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised. The operation highlighted seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision and high standards of professionalism,” an official statement said.
Continued Vigil in the Region
The operation comes amid continued efforts by security forces to curb militant activities in the Jammu region. Authorities said search and sanitisation operations are being carried out in nearby areas to ensure no other militants are present.
Officials reiterated that security agencies remain on high alert and are committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
