Trump to rejoin CBS’ 60 Minutes after lawsuit settlement over Harris interview
President Donald Trump will appear on 60 Minutes this Sunday, marking his first interview with the programme since settling a lawsuit with CBS News over its sit-down with Kamala Harris earlier this year. The interview, conducted Friday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate by CBS journalist Norah O’Donnell, is set to air this weekend.
Trump’s relationship with 60 Minutes has long been turbulent. He famously walked out of an interview with correspondent Lesley Stahl ahead of the 2020 election, accusing the show of bias, and later released his own recording of the exchange. He declined all invitations to appear during the 2024 campaign, but later sued CBS, alleging that its interview with Harris was selectively edited to favour her — a claim CBS denied. The case was settled in the summer, with Paramount reportedly agreeing to pay Trump $16 million.
The settlement came shortly before the Federal Communications Commission cleared Paramount’s merger with Skydance Media, led by David Ellison — whose father, Larry Ellison, is a longtime Trump ally. Since the takeover, Trump has signalled warmer ties with CBS, while Ellison has appointed figures aligned with the former president to key roles, including a conservative watchdog to review claims of editorial bias.
The network has also made high-profile editorial changes, including naming Bari Weiss — founder of the Free Press website — as the new editor-in-chief of CBS News. Weiss is said to have helped arrange a recent 60 Minutes segment featuring Jared Kushner and aide Steve Witkoff discussing the Gaza peace deal.
Speaking to reporters on October 12, Trump praised the Ellisons, saying, “They’re friends of mine, big supporters of mine, and they’ll do the right thing.”
