Trump threatens military action against Colombia after Venezuela raid
US President Donald Trump on Sunday openly threatened military action against Colombia, saying such an operation “sounds good to me” when asked directly by reporters.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump sharply criticised Colombia’s leadership, appearing to target President Gustavo Petro. “Colombia is very sick, too, run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States, and he’s not going to be doing it very long,” Trump said.
When pressed on whether Washington would consider a military operation against Colombia, the US president responded, “It sounds good to me.”
Trump’s remarks came a day after US forces carried out a dramatic operation in Caracas, capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and transporting him to New York, where he is expected to face drug-trafficking charges. The comments have raised concerns about further escalation of US actions in Latin America.
