Trump Rebukes Netanyahu Over Israeli Strike on Hamas in Qatar: WSJ

US President Donald Trump scolded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for ordering strikes on Hamas leaders inside Qatar, calling the move unwise, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing senior administration officials.

The rebuke came during a heated phone call on Tuesday, shortly after the attack. Netanyahu reportedly told Trump he had a narrow window of opportunity to hit Hamas leadership and seized it.

According to the Journal, a second call later that day was calmer, with Trump asking Netanyahu whether the operation had achieved its objectives.

In public remarks Tuesday, Trump voiced his displeasure with the strike. “I’m not thrilled about it. I’m not thrilled about the whole situation,” he told reporters in video posted by the Associated Press. “We want to have the hostages back, but we are not thrilled with the way that went down.”

The Israeli attack came as Hamas officials in Qatar were weighing a US-brokered ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip.
