Trump Blames Obama, Biden, Comey Over Missing Epstein Files, Calls Scandal a “Hoax”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited controversy around the unresolved aspects of the Jeffrey Epstein case, accusing political rivals of fabricating or concealing key documents.

Facing criticism over the Justice Department’s failure to release anticipated files related to Epstein’s sex trafficking network, Trump shifted blame onto former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as former FBI Director James Comey.

“These files were made up by Comey, they were made up by Obama, they were made up by the Biden…” Trump said during an exchange with reporters at the White House before a trip to Pennsylvania.

On Truth Social the next day, Trump called the controversy a “new SCAM” orchestrated by Democrats, labeling it the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.” Despite his claims, Trump offered no evidence to support the allegations that these individuals had tampered with or fabricated documents.

Critics were quick to point out inconsistencies. Comey was fired in 2017—two years before Epstein’s 2019 arrest and subsequent death in a New York City federal jail, which investigators concluded was a suicide. Obama left office in early 2017, and the Biden administration has overseen the prosecution of Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, securing her conviction without any public interference from the White House.

In February, the Justice Department released previously unreleased documents related to Epstein, though they contained no significant revelations. Earlier this month, the agency announced it had found no client list after a months-long review and would release no further files, apart from a video intended to support the official finding that Epstein died by suicide. That announcement was met with anger from Trump supporters and fueled online conspiracy theories.

Adding to the confusion, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, now a Trump ally, had earlier implied in a Fox News interview that a client list was “sitting on my desk.” She later clarified that she was referring broadly to the Epstein case file. A reported clash at the White House between Bondi and former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino over the withheld documents added to the drama.

Trump and several conservative influencers have for years promoted theories about Epstein’s death and connections to a so-called “deep state.” Now, Democrats are seizing on the Republican infighting. Some lawmakers have called for full public disclosure of all Epstein files, suggesting Trump may be resisting transparency because the documents could implicate him or his associates.

As public demand for clarity grows, Trump’s unsubstantiated accusations and the Justice Department’s limited disclosures have only deepened the mystery — and the political fallout — surrounding the Epstein case.
