97

If you are planning a spontaneous vacation, or prepping for an upcoming trip, here are a few destinations in India and across the world that are facing natural and geopolitical issues, making it hard for travellers to explore them.

Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rain and snowfall pounded Kullu, Mandi, and Lahaul-Spiti districts today, unleashing flash floods, landslides, and power outages. The severe weather brought life to a standstill, impacting thousands of residents and tourists. The Lahaul and Spiti Police issued an avalanche alert on February 28, cautioning against potential slides on steep slopes. Meanwhile, Keylong remains blanketed in fresh snow.

Jammu & Kashmir

Heavy snowfall blanketed Jammu and Kashmir on February 28, causing significant travel disruptions and road closures. Major highways, including the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Ladakh national highways, had been shut due to thick snow accumulation and landslides, impacting both travellers and locals. Before you make your plans, take stock of roads in the region since Srinagar-Jammu national highway, a vital connection between the two regions, was blocked two days ago following heavy snowfall near Qazigund and Banihal.

Uttarakhand

A tragic glacier burst near Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district had triggered a massive avalanche, trapping 57 workers engaged in a construction project in Mana village. As of February 27, 2025, several workers were buried under the snow. While the Badrinath Dham is not open this time of the year, many travellers make their way to the smaller villages in the area, which is not advisable.

Santorini, Greece

Although seismic activity in the Aegean Sea between Santorini and Amorgos has subsided, occasional high-intensity earthquakes remain a concern. According to the data collected by the Permanent Scientific Committee for Seismic Hazard Assessment and the Committee for Monitoring the Greek Volcanic Arc, conditions in Santorini are stable. However, precautionary measures are still in place.
