There was a time when a million-dollar contract was considered a milestone in Hollywood, reserved only for a handful of elite superstars. Today, that figure has multiplied a hundredfold. In an era dominated by mega-franchises and global box office stakes, the industry’s biggest names now command paycheques running into nine figures.

In 2025, one actor stood far above the rest.

Tom Cruise reigns supreme at 63

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise emerged as the world’s highest-paid actor of 2025, earning an estimated $130–150 million for a single film — Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Multiple reports, including those cited by Wealth, place Cruise firmly at the top of the earnings list this year.

The staggering payday marks Cruise’s return to the number one spot after more than a decade. He last topped the global earnings chart in 2012, when he reportedly earned $75 million, according to Forbes. With this achievement, Cruise dethroned Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who had dominated the rankings five times in the last nine years.

Notably, Cruise accomplished this feat at the age of 63, underscoring his enduring box-office appeal and unmatched ability to carry tentpole franchises on his shoulders.

A wide gap at the top

Cruise’s earnings were so far ahead that no other actor came close to matching even half of his annual income. Actor Daniel Craig secured second place with a reported $50 million paycheck for the latest instalment in the Knives Out franchise.

Close behind was Cameron Diaz, who emerged as the world’s highest-paid actress of 2025, earning $45 million for her comeback film Back in Action.

Other top earners of 2025

The year also saw strong paydays for several Hollywood heavyweights:

  • Brad Pitt earned around $30 million for F1

  • Leonardo DiCaprio took home $25 million for One Battle After Another

  • Adam Sandler pocketed $20 million for Happy Gilmore 2

From India, Rajinikanth emerged as the country’s highest-paid actor in 2025. The Tamil cinema icon reportedly earned over $20 million for Coolie, placing him among the world’s top-earning stars.

A new Hollywood reality

Cruise’s record-breaking earnings highlight how Hollywood’s economics have shifted, with franchises, streaming deals and backend profits pushing star salaries to unprecedented levels. As studios continue to bank on proven global names, the age of the $100-million actor appears firmly here to stay — and Tom Cruise, once again, is leading the charge.
