Tobacco Baron’s Son Shivam Mishra Arrested in Kanpur Lamborghini Crash

Kanpur police have arrested 26-year-old Shivam Mishra, son of a prominent tobacco businessman, in connection with the high-speed Lamborghini crash that injured three people. Confirming the development, Kanpur DCP Atul Srivastava said Mishra was taken into custody after police received information about his presence in the city.

“Shivam Mishra has been arrested and will be produced before the court. We received input that he had come to Kanpur, and our teams acted swiftly,” Srivastava said.

The arrest came a day after disciplinary action was initiated against a local Station House Officer over alleged procedural lapses in handling the case.

Details of the Crash

The accident occurred near Ring Wala Chauraha on Sunday when a Lamborghini Revuelto, reportedly linked to a firm owned by tobacco exporter KK Mishra, allegedly lost control at high speed.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, the luxury car rammed into an autorickshaw and a stationary motorcycle before mounting the pavement and hitting pedestrians.

Autorickshaw driver Tauseef Ahmed and two motorcycle riders, Vishal and Sonu Tripathi, were injured in the incident.

Based on Ahmed’s complaint, police initially registered an FIR against an “unidentified driver” under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita related to negligent driving and endangering life. Investigators later identified Shivam Mishra as the person allegedly behind the wheel and added his name to the case.

Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that the vehicle has been seized.

Claims and Counter-Claims

Witnesses described the collision as severe, claiming the motorcycle was struck with significant force, throwing the rider several feet. Some bystanders alleged that private security personnel accompanying Mishra rushed to the spot, broke open the Lamborghini’s window, and pulled him out of the driver’s seat.

Videos widely shared on social media appear to show security staff extracting Mishra from the vehicle, fuelling speculation about the sequence of events.

Locals further alleged that an attempt was made to remove Mishra from the scene, leading to a brief scuffle before he was taken to hospital.

Medical Angle Under Examination

Amid rumours that Mishra may have been under the influence of alcohol, police said the matter would be determined through medical and forensic reports.

Officials are also examining whether a medical condition — including epilepsy — may have contributed to the crash. Mishra’s family has claimed he suffered a seizure while driving and said he has experienced similar episodes in recent months.

However, Mishra’s lawyer has disputed that he was driving, asserting that a chauffeur was at the wheel and describing Mishra’s health as fragile. Legal proceedings are underway, with further court hearings expected.

SHO Removed From Post

In a related development, Gwaltoli SHO Santosh Gaur has been removed from his position for alleged negligence and failure to follow due procedure after the accident. Authorities indicated that the role of transport officials could also be reviewed if medical findings suggest Mishra was unfit to drive.

Background

The case has attracted heightened public attention due to the Mishra family’s past scrutiny during Income Tax Department raids in March 2024, when multiple luxury vehicles and cash were reportedly seized from business-linked premises.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
