The world’s most popular travel destinations for 2026 have been revealed, based on millions of traveller reviews and ratings, according to Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best Destinations rankings.

Fewer than one percent of Tripadvisor’s eight million listings earn the “Best of the Best” distinction, which is reserved for destinations consistently recognised for outstanding visitor experiences.

Bali tops the list

Indonesia’s Bali claimed the top spot, celebrated for its beaches, coral reefs and rich cultural offerings. Travellers are drawn to its lush jungles, ancient stone temples and the artsy town of Ubud, considered the island’s cultural heart. Popular activities include diving at World War II shipwrecks, yoga retreats and traditional cooking classes.

Global favourites feature prominently

European cities dominated much of the ranking. London stood out for its blend of historic landmarks, vibrant markets and diverse dining scene, while Paris was praised for its iconic sights, world-class museums and culinary experiences. Rome earned recognition for its historic piazzas, the Colosseum and classic Italian cuisine.

Other major destinations on the list included Marrakech, Bangkok and Istanbul, all noted for their bustling bazaars, cultural landmarks and distinctive local experiences.

The rankings also highlighted less conventional but highly rated destinations such as Crete, the Maldives, Cusco and Kathmandu, which were applauded for their natural beauty, heritage sites and adventure tourism. In North America, cities such as New York were recognised for combining iconic landmarks with unique cultural offerings.

According to Tripadvisor, the awards reflect destinations that consistently receive high-quality traveller reviews, signalling exceptional experiences across accommodation, attractions and dining. The rankings aim to help travellers identify top-rated locations and inspire travel plans for the year ahead.

The 2026 list also underscores a growing global preference for immersive cultural experiences, outdoor adventures and destinations that successfully blend modern amenities with historical or natural appeal.
