Prabhas returns to the family entertainer genre this weekend with horror-comedy The Raja Saab, marking a shift from his recent mass-action blockbusters. The film has generated significant buzz in the Telugu states, though its pan-India traction appears limited, according to advance booking trends.

Advance Booking Numbers

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab releases in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. By Friday morning, the Telugu version alone sold over 5 lakh tickets, while the combined sales of the dubbed versions totaled just around 70,000 tickets.

Data from Sacnilk shows the film has ₹15.31 crore in advance bookings for opening day, with ₹14 crore from the Telugu version. By comparison, Prabhas’ previous films saw far higher numbers: Kalki 2898 AD grossed close to ₹30 crore from 11 lakh tickets in Telugu, while Salaar earned ₹39 crore from 17 lakh tickets.

Industry experts note that, as a horror-comedy, The Raja Saab may perform better with family audiences, who tend to rely on spot bookings during the weekend. Much will depend on word of mouth following initial audience reactions.

Box Office Forecast

Despite a slower start in advance sales, a late surge suggests a healthy opening in India. As of Friday morning, estimates peg the film at a ₹70 crore net start, potentially making it Prabhas’ fourth-best opening post-pandemic, behind other releases that began over ₹85 crore.

About the Film

The Raja Saab stars Prabhas alongside Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Boman Irani, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab. The fantasy horror-comedy is set to release January 9 across India.
