Tempers Flare as Brawl Erupts in Delhi Premier League Eliminator; West Delhi Lions Advance
A tense clash marred Friday’s Delhi Premier League 2025 Eliminator between South Delhi Superstarz and West Delhi Lions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with players from both sides engaging in a brief on-field brawl. The incident occurred after West Delhi opener Krish Yadav was dismissed by South Delhi pacer Aman Bharti in the 11th over while chasing 202.
Krish attempted a six off the first ball of the over but was caught by Anmol Sharma near the boundary. A heated exchange followed, with Bharti staring down Krish and the batter responding in kind. South Delhi’s Sumit Mathur then confronted Krish, prompting West Delhi skipper Nitish Rana and the on-field umpires to intervene. Krish was asked to leave the field, while Rana separated the players and defused the situation.
On the field, West Delhi Lions dominated the chase. Led by Rana’s unbeaten 134 off 55 balls, featuring 8 fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate of 243.64, the Lions comfortably reached the target of 202 with 17 balls to spare. South Delhi Superstarz had earlier posted 201/5, bolstered by a 60-run innings from captain and wicketkeeper Tejasvi Dahiya.
With the win, West Delhi Lions advance to Qualifier 2, where they will face East Delhi Riders on Saturday, August 30, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
