Tel Aviv Threatens Iran’s Supreme Leader Following Deadly Hospital Strike
The armed conflict between Israel and Iran has entered its eighth day, with both nations intensifying missile and drone attacks.
On Thursday, Israel bombed nuclear and missile sites in Iran, including the Arak heavy water reactor, while Iran responded by launching a barrage of missiles and drones that hit southern Israel and Tel Aviv, injuring at least 240 people and causing widespread destruction. One of the Iranian strikes targeted a hospital in Beersheba, prompting strong condemnation from Israeli officials.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz directly blamed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for the escalating violence. In a post on X, Katz said the Israeli military has been ordered to meet its objectives “at any cost,” adding that Khamenei “absolutely should not continue to exist.”
Iranian state television reported that the Arak nuclear facility had been evacuated before Israel’s strike and claimed there was “no radiation danger.” However, the attack marks another significant blow to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which Israeli leaders insist poses a long-term threat despite Tehran’s continued denial that it seeks nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that President Donald Trump is weighing possible U.S. military involvement in the conflict. Officials stated that Trump will make a decision within two weeks, though he still believes there is a “substantial” chance for negotiations to meet U.S. and Israeli demands regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is reportedly engaged in back-channel talks with Iranian diplomats.
