Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Silence on Asia Cup Chaos, Calls Out Mohsin Naqvi

India captain Suryakumar Yadav admitted he was at a loss for words after his team was denied the Asia Cup 2025 trophy in Dubai, despite defeating Pakistan in the final for a record-extending ninth title.

The bizarre episode unfolded when Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi — also Pakistan Cricket Board head and Pakistan’s Interior Minister — left the stadium with the trophy following a chaotic presentation ceremony.

Trophy Snub Sparks Chaos

Protocol required Naqvi, as ACC chair, to hand the trophy to India. But the Indian camp refused to accept it from him, citing repeated bias during the tournament. The ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour as organisers scrambled.

India’s Kuldeep Yadav and Abhishek Sharma received individual awards, but broadcaster Simon Doull abruptly ended proceedings: “I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight.”

Naqvi departed with the silverware, leaving the champions to return to their hotel empty-handed.

Suryakumar’s Response

Addressing reporters afterwards, Suryakumar called it an unprecedented experience:

“Since I started playing cricket, I have never seen a champion team denied a trophy. It was a hard-earned victory. But my real trophies are my 14 teammates and support staff — the memories we created will stay with me forever.”

He stressed that the controversy could not diminish India’s achievement:

“The win is important. The world knows India are Asia Cup champions. That is what matters.”

Tournament of Tensions

The row capped three weeks of Indo-Pakistani flashpoints at the Asia Cup, from no-handshake incidents to provocative gestures. Naqvi himself courted controversy during the tournament, even using his social media to mock Indian fans over military conflicts rather than remaining neutral in his ACC role.

The Final

On the field, India sealed a thrilling win by chasing 147 with five wickets and two balls to spare. Tilak Varma was the hero, striking an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls, including four sixes, to steer India home.

For the players, the night ended in celebration without silverware — but with pride intact.
