Summer 2025 Beauty Trends: Lighter, Fresher, and Skincare-First

2

The makeup vibe for summer 2025 is all about lightness—in both feel and attitude. The heavy blush, diamanté eyes, and ultra-precise hairstyles of 2024 are being left behind in favour of softer, more wearable looks.

The new season puts skincare first, with glow, minimalism, and comfort at the forefront. Here’s what’s shaping the season’s standout trends and the products that go with them:

1. Tinted SPF: The Hero Product of the Season

In the era of skin-first beauty, tinted SPF has become a must-have. Forget greasy formulas or ghostly white casts—today’s tinted SPFs offer lightweight coverage, skin tone correction, and built-in sun protection in one.

Charlotte Tilbury MBE, founder and CCO of her namesake brand, noted, “One of the biggest make-up mistakes I see is people not wearing SPF under their makeup. It’s so important—even on cloudy days.” Her brand’s UV Flawless Poreless Primer is one example of this new wave of hybrid products.

Makeup artist Ariane Young connects the trend to the ongoing K-beauty influence: “Tinted SPF gives minimal coverage, evens out the skin tone, and creates a hydrated, glowing finish.” It’s lighter than a BB or CC cream, and ideal for anyone embracing the ‘no makeup, makeup’ aesthetic.

2. Cool-Toned Eyes: Icy, Not Chalky

Shimmer is making a comeback—think early-2000s frosted hues with a modern upgrade. Lavender washes, icy whites, and soft blues are trending, minus the chalky finish of the past.

Charlotte Tilbury notes that unlike the harsh frosts of the Noughties, today’s cool tones are softer and more blendable. Ariane Young advises: “The trick is picking one focal point. A frosted lid against matte skin and a neutral lip keeps it chic, not costume.”

For beginners, Young recommends starting with a colourful eyeliner or a sheer wash of shimmer. MAC’s Carly Utting suggests warming up to cooler tones by swapping bronzes and golds for greys and mauves, and even pairing a cool-toned liner with a honey-hued lipstick for a nod to ’90s contrast.

3. Ghost Lashes: Barely-There Elegance

In stark contrast to last year’s lash extensions and dramatic falsies, 2025 is the summer of the “ghost lash.” Mascara is optional, and bare lashes are embraced as part of the clean, minimalist aesthetic.

Makeup artist Mira Parmar describes it as “a no-mascara or barely-there lash look,” popular on red carpets with stars like Zendaya, Hailey Bieber, and Lily-Rose Depp.

“This isn’t just about skipping mascara,” Parmar explains. “It’s part of a bigger move toward natural beauty and self-care, where the skin and features take centre stage.”

4. Diffused Lips: The Blurred, French-Girl Finish

Say goodbye to sharply defined lips and hello to the blurred, lived-in pout. Think soft-focus edges, light liner, and gloss or balm finishes that enhance rather than mask.

Ariane Young observes: “Perfectly lined lips are out. The new look is more relaxed—blended edges, sheer tints, and effortless application.”

Carly Utting agrees: “There’s a real shift toward sheer, plumped lips with subtle sheen. Natural lips with a soft glow are everywhere.”

The Bottom Line: Real Skin, Real Simplicity

The summer 2025 makeup mood is all about letting your skin breathe while embracing subtle enhancements. From SPF-tinted skin to whisper-light lashes and frosty eyes, the goal is beauty that feels effortless, breathable, and authentic.
