Strong 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolts Leh-Ladakh, government issues advisory
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the northwestern Kashmir region on Sunday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
The tremor occurred at 11:51 a.m. IST, with its epicentre located in the Leh–Ladakh region at a depth of 171 km. The quake was recorded at latitude 36.71°N and longitude 74.32°E, according to the NCS.
The region lies along the seismically active Himalayan belt. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Authorities said the situation was being monitored and advised residents to remain cautious in view of possible aftershocks.
