SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali: The Epic’ set for record-breaking re-release; earns ₹10 crore in pre-sales worldwide

SS Rajamouli’s monumental works — Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) — are returning to theatres this Friday as a single condensed film titled Baahubali: The Epic. Ahead of its release, the film has already stormed the box office, surpassing the pre-sales of Vijay’s Ghilli and Mahesh Babu’s Khaleja with over ₹10 crore in worldwide advance bookings, according to trade sources.

Massive advance booking record

Baahubali: The Epic has achieved the biggest-ever opening for an Indian re-release, with ₹5 crore in India and another ₹5 crore from North America through advance bookings. It is now the first Telugu re-release to cross ₹10 crore worldwide on its opening day alone. Trade experts predict it could set new global records for Indian film re-releases.

For comparison, Vijay’s Ghilli reportedly grossed between ₹7.9 and ₹10 crore on its re-release opening day, Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh collected ₹8 crore, and Mahesh Babu’s Khaleja earned ₹6.85 crore. Currently, Harshvardhan Rane’s Sanam Teri Kasam holds the all-time re-release record with a massive ₹41 crore collection.

Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia, the re-edited film is directed by SS Rajamouli and produced by Arka Media Works. With a streamlined runtime of 3 hours and 45 minutes, Baahubali: The Epic has been remastered and re-edited for a sharper theatrical experience.

The film will have a massive global release in over 1,150 theatres, including 400 in the US, 210 in the UK and Ireland, 150+ in the UAE and GCC, 144 across Australia and New Zealand, and over 100 screens in Southeast Asia.
