Sensex slips 119 pts, Nifty at 25,069; IT, pharma stocks drag; SMIDs shine
Indian benchmark equity markets closed lower on Monday amid a lack of any major cues, while traders eye the US Federal Reserve policy decision later this week.
At close, the BSE Sensex was trading at 81,785.74, down by 118.96 or 0.15 per cent, while the NSE Nifty50 was at 25,069.2, down by 44.8 points or 0.18 per cent.
On the Sensex index, Asian Paints, M&M, Titan, and Infosys, among the top losers. On the contrary, Bajaj Finance, Eternal (Zomato), UltraTech Cement, and Reliance Industries were the top gainers.
In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap index settled 0.44 per cent and 0.76 per cent higher, respectively.
On the sectoral front, the Nifty Realty was the top gainer, rising 2.41 per cent. On the flipside, the Nifty IT index was down 0.58 per cent and Nifty Pharma was down 0.64 per cent.
