Sensex rises 450 pts, Nifty near 24,400; defence shares rise up to 6%

The Nifty50 and the Sensex extended gains as realty, auto, oil and gas stocks advanced

As of 11:00 AM, the Nifty50 was up 152.55 points or 0.63 per cent at 24,423.40, and the Sensex rose 0.67 per cent or 524.48 points to 78,288.39.

Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and Bharat Electricals were the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.18 per cent and 0.08 per cent higher, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Realty, the Nifty Auto and the Nifty Oil and Gas outperformed, while the Nifty IT and the Nifty Media declined the most.
