Sensex rises 100pts; Nifty tests 25,000; PSU Bk, Oil & Gas shares rise, IT drags

Stock markets in India recouped morning losses to trade mildly higher on Thursday.

As of 11:10 AM, the BSE Sensex index was trading at 81,481.09, higher by 55.94 points or 0.07 per cent, while the Nifty50 was at 24,986.45, up 12.65 points or 0.05 per cent.

Infosys shares were ruling 1 per cent lower ahead of the company’s Board meeting today. The information technology major’s board will decide on its fifth-ever buyback programme. Historical data show that Infosys’ stock has given mixed performance in the medium and short term.

That apart, Tech M, Kotak Bank, Ultratech Cement, Trent, and Bharti Airtel were the top losers. On the upside, Eternal, Adani Ports, NTPC, BEL, Sun Pharma, SBI, Titan, and ITC were the top gainers, rising up to 2 per cent.

Meanwhile, in the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap index were slightly outperforming the benchmarks with a rise of 0.18 per cent and 0.25 per cent, respectively.

Among sectors, the Nifty IT index fell 0.7 per cent on profit booking, while the Nifty Oil and Gas index rose 1.3 per cent.
