Sensex rise 160 pts, Nifty near 24,600; SPARC tumbles 19%, GRSE zooms 10%

Stock markets in India were trading higher today, led by buying in auto, and IT stocks. The BSE Sensex index was ruling at 80,901 higher by 160 points, while the Nifty50 was at 24,596, up 53 points or 0.22 per cent.

Bharti Airtel, Eternal, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Tech M, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Nestle India, and M&M were the top Sensex gainers today, rising up to 1.4 per cent.

On the contrary, TCS, Titan, Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, and Axis Bank were the top losers, down up to 0.65 per cent.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index and the Nifty SmallCap index were up 0.09 per cent and 0.17 per cent respectively.

Among sectors, the Nifty Auto index was up 0.6 per cent, the Nifty IT 0.56 per cent, and the Nifty Metal 0.33 per cent.

Block Deals Today

Tata Technologies share price fell by 1.6 per cent after US-based TPG likely sold its 2.1-per cent stake in the Tata group company through a block deal. Around 9 million shares changed hands on the counter on the BSE at 9:15 AM at a price of ₹757 per share.

Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail share price, meanwhile, tumbled over 8 per cent as Walmart-owned Flipkart divested its entire 6 per cent stake in the company through a block deal. Around 29 million shares changed hands on the counter at ₹79.79 per share.
